Champaign families invited to get gardening

An indoor garden can be a good winter family project, and the Champaign County Forest Preserve District (CCFPD) wants to help them get started.

The venue has been running its “Night Lights in the Garden” celebration, which will wrap up with a special activity in early 2022. All ages are welcome, and the materials needed will be packed up in a kit they can be taken home.

Those who are interested can pre-book their winter wonderland miniature garden kit, which will be filled with an assortment of materials, including decorations that will add a touch of frosty flair to their planting. The registration fee is $10 and the supplies will all be packed into reusable drawstring Bags that feature a special graphic design. The organizer of this activity is Katie Snyder, who can be contacted at (217) 586-2612 with any questions.

Due to Covid, many libraries, family centers and other organizations have made themed activity packs available for curbside pickup, and these may even be paired with a virtual activity. Packaging supplies and Promotional Products for these may be obtained from an area printer.

The CCFPD has plans to distribute these miniature garden kits during the final night of its “Night Lights in the Winter Garden” exhibit, which is scheduled for January 8. They will be on offer from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm. It will be held at the Mabery Gelvin Botanical Garden.
