Champaign area to support literacy

An initiative that encourages the community to get reading will soon take place in the Champaign area, promoting the values of literacy.

The C-U Read Across America initiative encourages families to get involved in literacy by offering free activities, and Lincoln Square Mall will be the venue for one of its events. All ages are invited to stop by and be part of the fun, which will run for three hours.

The plans for the occasion will see locals browse through the booths and displays, and at least 40 area businesses will be supporting the festivities. There will be a number of ways to get involved, and these range from sitting in on story telling sessions to interacting with the costumed characters. Local celebrities will be on hand to greet the crowd, and a special area will be reserved for babies and toddlers.

To both thank the families for their support and further encourage kids to read, the first 1,000 to arrive will receive a book of their choice, as well as a free bag. Corporate Gifts for a social occasion like this one can be prepared by printing services companies from the area.

This day that will celebrate the joys of reading will begin at 10:00 am on Sunday, March 2. The fun will keep on going until 1:00 pm.
