Coeur d'Alene invites long-distance swimmers

An annual competition will be putting long-distance swimmers’ skills to the test.

The Coeur d'Alene Crossing is an open water swim event offering two distance options – a 2.4-mile swim beginning at Gozzer Ranch Lake Club’s Discovery Marina and a shorter 1.2-mile course starting from the center of the lake. Both courses conclude at the Hagadone Event Center.

Coeur d'Alene cruise boats will carry participants to their starting locations. Participants in the 1.2-mile swim will board at 7:00 am and leave at 7:30 am. Swimmers enrolled for the 2.4-mile race will board at 6:00 am and leave at 6:30 am. The temperature should be warm enough to make wetsuits not a necessity, but participants may wear one if they wish.

For the 2.4-mile swim, a timing checkpoint will be enforced. Participants must reach the halfway mark within 1 hour and 10 minutes to continue the race.

The Coeur d’Alene Crossing is organized as a fundraising initiative in support of youth aquatic programs in the area. Proceeds benefit several efforts, including the 3rd Grade Swim program at the Kroc Center. Additionally, funds from the event help support the Kroc Center’s competitive water polo team, aiding in travel and competition expenses.
