Captain Greg Behning has been promoted to the rank of Major and is now the Assistant Chief of Police of the Davenport Police Department. Behning has been with the department for 30 years.
He joined the Davenport Police Department in 1994 and has served in every of the department’s divisions, including the Neighborhoods Energized to Succeed Unit, the Training Unit, the Tactical Operations Bureau (TOB), and all three patrol shifts. Additional roles he has held include TOB Commander, Internal Affairs Officer, and as the Patrol Division Commander.
He has also contributed to law enforcement efforts in the region and elsewhere having served with the Quad City Metropolitan Enforcement Group. He was a Tactical Commander Instructor for the Anti-Terrorism Assistance Program of the United States Department of State.
Chief Jeffery Bladel said that serving the Davenport community through the police department has been the life’s work of Major Behning. He added that Major Behning has always been concerned about the well-being of the officers and the residents and that this dedication, experience, and leadership will serve him well in this new role.
