Contributions from the Regional Development Authority, IH Mississippi Valley Credit Union, Hubbell-Waterman Foundation, Quad Cities Community Foundation, and Quad City Bank will make it possible for some local AmeriCorps staff and members to complete their commitments of service this summer in Davenport. The funding will support the payment of living stipends through the end of next month.
This funding will enable three seasonal members and five members who work year-round to complete their service at the Putnam Museum and Science Center, Davenport Parks and Recreation, Common Chord, and Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Mississippi Valley. The funding will also support two full-time positions and one part-time position at Nahant Marsh Educational Center.
News of such funding and its benefits for not only the participants but for the community at large can be made known with flyer printing.
The CEO for the Regional Development Authority, Matt Mendenhall, said that it felt like the right thing to do to help these members complete their contracts. He said that all the funding organizations wanted to keep this opportunity for young people when they learned of the loss of a federal grant.
Executive director of Nahant Marsh, Brian Ritter, expressed his thanks to these organizations who decided so quickly to provide the needed funding. He said that this will enable his organization to continue to offer affordable and fun educational programs for the community.
