New police chief announced in Davenport

The new Chief of Police in Davenport is Major Greg Behning. Since Jeffery Bladel retired in March, Major Behning has been serving as Interim Chief.

New appointments in roles like these often call for business card printing services.

Major Behning has served the department for over 30 years, serving in every division of the department. He actively contributes to law enforcement efforts in the region, including 22 years on the Emergency Services Team of the department. Since August 2025, he has been Assistant Chief of Police. In his new position, he will supervise the department of 29 professional staff and 167 sworn personnel.

Tim Gleason, City Administrator, said:

“Greg demonstrated all the qualities we were looking for in our next chief and earned strong support from our stakeholders.”

He added that Behning has the leadership, character, and experience to advance and strengthen the police department.

Behning expressed his honor to be selected to lead the Police Department in Davenport and to continue to serve along with the women and men in the department who are dedicated to the safety of the community. He added that he plans to advance improvements that support high-quality policing and build on the partnerships that have long lasting positive outcomes for the community.

A public open house to meet with the new police chief and the rest of the department is planned soon.
