September is National Suicide Prevention Awareness Month, and the Pathways Center is giving people who suffer from depression a place to get the treatment that they need.
The Pathways Center just opened a Care Campus on Hospital Road in Newnan. The Care Campus is not yet fully operational, however the Pathways Center operates a 24/7 crisis center that will help people deal with detox and crisis stabilization on a walk-in basis. This is a last-resort and people are urged to look out for each other by looking out for the warning Signs of depression that could lead to suicide. The warning Signs to look out for include violent behavior, withdrawing from family and friends, displaying mood swings, and high levels of drug abuse and/or alcohol consumption
Flyer printing with such information could help people to identify suicidal tendencies earlier and help to save lives. According to Stephanie Garcia, people dealing with depression just want to know that someone cares enough to reach out.
The fight to prevent suicide is also being taken to schools. Ruth Scott was recently hired by the Coweta County Board of Education in order to offer better support to students suffering from mental health issues. She plans to coordinate programs where students can gain access to group counseling and increase their emotional resilience.
