Schools hope to complete improvement projects before classes start

Coweta County School System is taking advantage of the fact that schools are empty to complete important construction projects.

The middle school being built on Shaw Road is one project that is making progress. The building’s structural steel beams have been put up and the concrete for the floor slabs has been poured. When speaking about the projects, Assistant Superintendent Evan Horton said:

“Work is progressing nicely here. I think they’re taking advantage of some of the dry weather that we’ve had here lately.”

The new middle school is expected to be open to students in August 2021. Renovations are also scheduled for Northgate High School in Newnan, where Horton says that most of the preliminary work has been done, although they are not ready to take bids from subcontractors. He adds that he and other executives involved with the project have met with the construction manager and the architects to work out how the project can be amended. Early stages of such projects involve concept images shared using brochure printing.

The other projects that are currently ongoing in Coweta County include:

- Replacing the tennis courts at East Coweta High School and Northgate
- Extending the primary sewer line so that it can serve Shaw Road’s new middle school
- Upgrading the security protocols at Thomas Crossroads and Newnan Crossing elementary schools
