New set of graduates from Leadership Coweta

The Newnan area could be set for a business card printing surge, as a total of 28 professionals have graduated from this year’s class at Leadership Coweta after completing their class projects.

Leadership Coweta is a program that was started by the Newnan-Coweta Chamber of Commerce. Part of this year’s course included giving an herb garden to the students of Ruth Hill Elementary and helping them to create business plans. The Leadership program’s students also collaborated with Keep Newnan Beautiful to install planters at the square.

A press release put out after the graduation stated:

“The Leadership Coweta Alliance fosters a sense of place for graduates who effectively leverage community resources and connections to the benefit of personal and professional growth.”

Coweta’s leadership program was started by Lynn Smith in 1995. She was the president of the Chamber of Commerce back then and was inspired when she attended a Leadership Georgia meeting. This gave her the idea of setting up a similar program in Coweta to help foster the next generation of leaders. The classes are designed to help the students understand how their local community operates and foster relations with local businesses.

The program lasts for just under a year, with the students meeting up one Tuesday every month to discover the intricacies of how industry and nonprofit organizations in Coweta County work
