Brenda Mitchell, who is the facility’s executive director, said that:
“We are so excited this is happening. It’s been hard for us to get supplies. This too shall pass. But for the time being, we’re going to keep our residents and staff members safe.”
According to Mitchell, 13 members of Georgia’s National Guard cleaned the entire facility while clad in hazmat suits. They wiped down all of the communal areas, kitchens, porches, and resident rooms. Insignia has yet to report a single case of COVID-19. Printing services could be used to let people know that a facility is temporarily inaccessible.
Sgt. Matt Jones said that the troops were using Bio-Oxygen Chem-Decon to sterilize the facility. The cleaner is a solution with hydrogen peroxide as the primary ingredient. This mixture is believed to eradicate microbes in under 30 seconds and it is non-toxic. Cleaning an entire facility like Insignia can take seven hours, and they will be with cleaning specific facilities every week.
Other precautions are being implemented. The facility’s own team makes sure that handrails, doorknobs and other surfaces that are touched often are cleaned three times daily. Everybody entering the facility has their temperature taken before gaining access. The patients’ temperatures are also taken daily.
