Orlando Fringe celebrates milestone year

The Orlando International Fringe Festival will be holding its 30th annual event this May, with a digital streaming event to follow alongside other shoulder programming.

Like other Fringe festivals held around the world, the Orlando event will feature dozens of theatrical performances, from one-person shows to fully produced plays. Orlando Fringe uses a lottery system where the acts are selected randomly from among all submissions, offering performers of all experience levels and styles an equal chance to get on stage. For this reason, Fringe festivals are popular among audiences looking for the unusual and unexpected, as well as amateur and aspiring performers.

Fringe is accompanied by a number of events, including an outdoor stage featuring live music from a variety of artists, a Visual Fringe that offers art on sale and live demonstrations, a Kids Fringe mini-festival aimed at younger audiences, and special social events like The Midnight Cabaret. Festivals and performances like this rely on word of mouth as well as tools like poster printing to get the word out. This year’s Orlando Fringe will also have a virtual component, with weeks of live-streamed performances occurring in June.

The 30th annual edition of the Orlando International Fringe Festival will take place between May 18 and 31. Loch Haven Park will serve as a hub for the festival with venues like the Lowndes Shakespeare Center and Orlando Repertory Theatre, as well as off-site and performance-specific stages.
