New graduate facility opened by Florida Hospital

On a recent Orlando day, with the temperature soaring to 93°F and the humidity high, Florida Hospital held an opening dedication ceremony for its newly formed Adventist University of Health Sciences.

The university will be offering three doctoral programs housed in the Graduate Building with three classrooms, nine state-of-the-art laboratories, seven office suites, and some conference rooms. There will also be combined research, lab and classroom space, and a full kitchen, bathroom, bedroom, and laundry for training.

The president and CEO of the hospital, Lars Houmann, commented that the hospital is honored to be able to host doctoral students and offer advanced degrees in healthcare programs, including a doctorate program for physical therapy. Being able to offer these degrees is the next step for the future of the hospital, Houmann added, and will help to fulfill the central mission of Florida Hospital.

A new simulation lab for the nurse anesthesia program will have virtual simulators so that students can administer medications and the ‘patients’ can respond as if they were human.

Chaplain Bill Crofton noted at the ribbon cutting ceremony that this university will prepare students for serving the general public and to enter a career in healing.

The Hospital could make use of brochure printers to broadcast more information about the degree programs and requirements for admission.
