Florida Film Festival returns to Orlando

A Central Florida film institution was delayed earlier this year, but is now scheduled to take place this August in Orlando.

The 2020 edition of Florida Film Festival will feature 177 films from 37 countries, made up of 37 features and 140 short films. These were selected from 2,850 submissions, the most in the festival’s history. To accommodate all of the entries, the event has been extended from 10 days to 14, with each film or short program only screening once. The festival will also have a virtual component, with at least one feature and one short program screened entirely online.

The festival will kick off with Orlando native filmmaker Steven Shea’s Surviving Supercon, a movie set at a fan convention. Films in competition will be divided between unusual genres of family, music, food, Florida, the avant-garde category of Sunspots, and the infamous midnight movies. The event will also contain five “spotlight” films screened out of competition, including acclaimed comedy writer Armando Ianucci’s new film The Personal History of David Copperfield. Festivals like this can offer major exposure for independent and international filmmakers. Patrons of such events often take home Promotional Products or schedules created through brochure printing, letting them track down their favorites later.

This year’s edition of the Florida Film Festival will take place between August 7 and 20, with all screenings taking place at the Enzian Theater.
