Broadway musical headed for Orlando

A touring production of Tony Award-winning Broadway musical “Ain’t Too Proud” will be arriving in Orlando this January.

“Ain’t Too Proud” is a jukebox musical based on the life and work of legendary R&B group The Temptations. The play tells the story of the quintet’s rise during the turbulent 1960s, and features new arrangement and choreography to hit songs such as “My Girl” and “Papa Was a Rolling Stone.”

The show began in at the Berkeley Repertory Theatrr in 2017, eventually became that theater’s most successful musical. It received plaudits for its 2019 Broadway run, including a dozen Tony nominations and a win for Best Choreography.

The Orlando show is part of a national tour bringing Ain’t Too Proud to theatres around the United States. The tour features a new cast with Jalen Harris, Harrell Holmes Jr., Marcus Paul James, James T. Lane, and Elijah Ahmad Lewis playing the five Temptations. The Orlando stop will consist of eight shows across six days, and be followed by February performances in Naples, Fort Lauderdale and Fort Myers. Touring shows like this, often promoted with flyer printing and local media advertising, are a popular way to put a musical or play in front of a broader audience after a successful Broadway run.

Ain’t Too Proud will be playing at Orlando’s Dr. Phillips Center from January 25 to 30.
