New overpass connects Miramar and Pembroke Pines

The Pembroke Road overpass, part of the express lane project of Interstate 75, recently opened in the cities of Pembroke Pines and Miramar, with a special ribbon-cutting ceremony.

This overpass is a bridge that connects the eastern and western parts of both cities. There was also a bike ride, a 5K run, and other festivities that the entire family could enjoy on the bridge. By noon, regular traffic was able to move across the bridge.

According to Barbara Sharief, Vice Mayor of Broward County, there are no exit or entrance ramps on the bridge that connect it to I-75, but it helps to lessen the traffic on adjacent overpasses. There are two lanes of traffic in each direction on the bridge, as well as sidewalks, bike lanes, fencing, and a median.

The cost of the project was close to $8m and it took two years to complete, once the expansion plans of I-75 were finalized. The cost the Pembroke Road extension on both sides to the bridge was covered by Broward County, but the overpass was built by the Florida Department of Transportation so its specifications would be in accordance with the current construction along I-75.

Officials from the two cities, residents, and neighboring businesses have expressed enthusiasm about the new overpass and may look into various printing services to let those in neighboring communities become aware of the opening of the new bridge.
