A local autism advocacy group has a calm experience planned for children who feel overwhelmed by the noise and chaos of a typical trip to see Santa.
One of the most exciting moments for children during the holiday season is the opportunity to sit with Santa and make certain he knows what they hope to see under their tree, but this experience can be challenging or even impossible for children with autism.
Autism Speaks, a worldwide advocacy organization, was founded in 2005 and works with volunteers and businesses around the world to find solutions that help to create more opportunities for children and adults with sensory issues. The group encourages business owners to learn more about creating comfortable environments for people with this disorder. Many companies now notify their customers through Mailing services to let them know about special events or adapted environments that make their business more inclusive.
This year, Autism Speaks is making the season brighter for children with autism spectrum disorder and their parents by arranging a special visit just for them. The Soothing Santa event is designed specifically for children with sensory issues. The calm environment and specially trained Santa ensures a more comfortable and enjoyable moment for these children.
There is no fee to attend, but space is limited so advance registration is required. The visits will take place at Westland Mall at 1675 W 49th Street in Hialeah on November 26 and December 3 from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm. Registration can be completed at the Eventbrite website.
