Jamaican Jerk Festival achieves national theme day status

A Miramar food festival will now take on national recognition, as the Jamaican Jerk Festival has successfully applied to the USA National Day Archives to have a date in October officially recognized as National Jamaican Jerk Day.

The Jamaican Jerk Festival, which typically holds events annually in Miramar and Queens, New York, will be looking to take the celebration of the signature Caribbean food nationwide this year. In place of the typical in-person food festival, organizers will be broadcasting a live stream through YouTube. The stream will feature live performances, cooking demonstrations, highlights from past festivals and features on sponsors and vendors. Jerk-based festivals from Orlando, Palm Beach, and Canada will also contribute to the stream.

Organizers will also aim to promote National Jamaican Jerk Day on social media, encouraging home cooks to show off their own versions of the dish wish hashtags like #NationalJerkDay. They are also in discussion with various corporations and government agencies to help spread the celebration around the country. Food festivals are typically advertised through tools like flyer printing, and having an official day dedicated to the food in question can only help with legitimacy and public consciousness.

National Jamaican Jerk Day will take place on October 25. The commemorative livestream will take place that day on the YouTube channel of VP Records.
