Leesburg, Florida is the home of the original campus of Lake-Sumter State College. The campus is adjacent to a Timucuan village at Silver Lake. The entire area was later used for agriculture, including turpentine milling and citrus groves. By 1942, the groves were gone and the US Army Air Base was established.
