Leesburg home to new national restaurant chain
Residents have seen a lot of development in Leesburg, and a new Asian restaurant is now open within a bustling retail complex.
Panda Express is among the newest businesses to open in the Silver Lake Commons development. Known for its original, trademark dishes, the chain has experienced a meteoric rise in popularity since its humble beginnings in California decades ago.
The chain’s founders are known for their generosity, and their interest in giving back to the Leesburg community was evident on their November 10 opening day. The company presented the Leesburg Food Bank a check for $1,000, and the first 88 customers received free, commemorative t-shirts. Such corporate gifts are often useful to promote new businesses. The event was attended by officials from the Leesburg Chamber of Commerce, Miss Leesburg, and Miss Teen Leesburg.
Panda Express began in 1973 as the vision of Andrew Cherng, who worked with his father to create the first sit-down Chinese-American restaurant in Pasadena, CA. Their delicious menu grew in popularity, inspiring a second opening in nearby Glendale within a few years. Andrew and his wife, Peggy, opened the first Panda Express in 1983. In 1987, chef Andy Kao created what would become its trademark dish, Orange Chicken. This ignited growth, and by 1993 the couple had over 100 restaurants in operation. Today, the chain has over 2000 stores around the world, with a presence in 11 countries overseas.
The Leesburg Panda Express is located at 10849 U.S. 441. Its hours are 10:00 AM to 10:00 PM daily.
