Leesburg welcomes return of community day

Residents of Leesburg can look forward to a day of family fun when a cherished tradition returns this spring.

The Leesburg Department of Parks and Recreation will sponsor Fruitland Park Day in late March. The annual event features a range of entertaining activities. The day’s events begin with a parade at 10:00 AM. Attendees will have a range of activities from which to choose after the parade, including bounce houses, laser tag, games, food trucks, and, of course, the Bar-B-Q cookoff contest. Additionally, many vendors will be on-site.

The popular BBQ cookoff and contest is a favorite for many locals at this annual event. BBQ judging and tasting begins at 11:30 AM and lasts until 1:30. Access to the cookoff portion of the day requires purchase of a wristband for $5. Banner printing helps draw attention to vendors at community events.

Fruitland Park Day is scheduled for Friday, March 28, from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM. Admission is free to all. Those wishing to enter a vehicle or float in the parade may do so at no cost as well, although registration through the city website is required. Teams that wish to participate in the BBQ cookoff may register there as well. The entry fee for the cookoff is $50 per team. Finally, vendor registration is open until March 8th, with late registration from March 9th through the 15th. Vendor spaces are 10x10 feet and are available for a $30 fee.
