Emerald Trail 5K includes runners, walkers, and cyclists

First Place Sports and JTC Running have teamed up to present the inaugural VyStar Emerald Trail 5k coming toward the end of November.

The family-friendly event will allow cyclists, walkers and runners an opportunity to get to view many interesting sites along the 30-mile linear park and urban Emerald Trail being constructed by Groundwork Jacksonville and the City of Jacksonville.

All participants will receive T-Shirts sporting the event’s colorful peace sign graphic design. Finishers will get custom made medals.

Participants must pre-register and registration will be restricted to 500 entrants. Groups or waves are selected at registration. Awards will go to the high-placed finishers, with more awards for specific age categories.

The first group of cyclists will begin the route at 7:30 am with groups of 50 riders leaving every three minutes. Beginning at 8:00 am, groups of 100 runners and walkers will leave the starting line every two minutes.

Proceeds will go to Groundwork Jacksonville, a nonprofit organization dedicated to managing, improving, and regenerating physical environment by teaming up with community-based programs that empower local organizations, businesses and people in improving and sustaining Jacksonville’s social, community, and economic welfare.

VyStar Credit Union Emerald Trail 5K 2020 will be November 21 from 7:30 am until 12:30 pm at the Duval County Courthouse, 501 W. Adams, St. Jacksonville.
