Keep Coral Gables Beautiful, a beautification program that the city set up in 2020, has organized two programs for the coming months.
First up is the Downtown Community End-of-Summer Community Cleanup coming towards the end of August. The Phade Matheson Hammock Coastal Cleanup follows this in mid-October.
Volunteers for the downtown clean-up are asked to meet at 5:00 pm at the Coral Gables Chamber of Commerce Office, 201 Alhambra Cir Suite 100 on Monday, August 26.
Thanks to the people at Baptist Health South Florida, refreshments and gelato cones will be available for free at Freddo Gelato, 176 Giralda Avenue to clean-up participants.
Not long after, Phade, a company that makes marine biodegradable drinking straws, and Keep Coral Gables Beautiful will be holding a Phade Matheson Hammock Coastal Cleanup from 9:00 am to 11:00 pm on Saturday, October 12 at Matheson Hammock Park, 9610 Old Cutler Road.
Participants will be picking up litter on the park's trails. Everyone is to bring their own snacks and water bottles, and should wear comfortable clothes and closed-toed shoes.
Volunteers will receive Phade gift cards and take part in giveaways. Those who participate in these kinds of projects often wear colorful T-Shirts printed with the group's Logo Design or graphic design to build camaraderie.
For those interested in volunteering but who find they cannot attend at these times, Keep Coral Gables Beautiful has over 170 events and programs throughout the year to reduce litter from local waterways and open spaces, helping to educate the community, and to recycle.
