Summer concerts return this month

Over 7,500 Coral Gables music lovers are expected to attend the Community Arts Program Summer Concert Series beginning in early June.

The programs will be presented every other Thursday from June through August from 7:30 pm to 9:00 pm. Tickets range from $270 for all admission to all six concerts, to $50 for single concert patron tickets, or $35 for general admission.

The CAP All-Star Jazz Ensemble Reunion Big Band will begin the series on June 8. The evening will be replete with the sounds of iconic music of artists such as Count Basie, Glenn Miller, and Duke Ellington.

On June 22, music will turn to classical fare with Mark Kosower, the Cleveland Orchestra’s Principal Cello, accompanied by pianist Melivia Roharjo playing works of Martinu, Krenek, Coleridge-Taylor Perkinson, and Beethoven.

July performances will be 5 String Swing on July 6, and New Orleans music presented by the Shannon Powell Trio on July 20.

On August 3, the series will present Sinta quartet, four saxophone masters playing Dvorak, Bela Fleck, and Ligeti. Ekep Nkwelle, the winner of the 2022 Sarah Vaughan International Jazz Vocal Competition, will close the series on August 17.

Occasionally, a supporter of groups such as the Community Arts Program will arrange flyer printing and put Flyers in various locations around town to get the word out about upcoming events. The concerts will be at the Coral Gables Congregational United Church of Church, 3010 De Soto Boulevard.
