A newcomer to the Miami-area theater scene will make its debut at a Coral Gables movie theater this August, performing a cult Broadway musical.
Miami Theatre Works is the project of Michael Stoddard, best known for running the educational summer program Community Theatre Works, and businessman Bob Reynolds. The goal is to perform one work each summer, taking advantage of the area’s unusual performance spaces. The first play will be [title of show], a meta-fictional story whose cheeky name refers to its topic of a theatrical production in progress.
[title of show] premiered at New York’s Musical Theatre Festival and later had a run off-Broadway in 2006 and on Broadway in 2008, where its book was nominated for a Tony award. Since then, the play has been produced around the world in multiple languages. The musical was created by Jeff Bowen and Hunter Bell and is a self-reflective story about the struggle to create a new musical. Launching a play of any magnitude involves a huge effort in everything from casting to brochure printing for programs. The Coral Gables production will star Stoddard alongside Owen Reynolds, Stephanie Staszak, and Natalie Veater, with Jared Peroune performing piano music.
The Miami Theatre Works production of [title of show] will run between August 6 and 12 at the Coral Gables Art Cinema.
