The Sanctuary of the Arts, based in Coral Gables, will be presenting three events in May.
A Viennese Soiree will begin the month with the Chamber Ensemble of Orchestra Miami, directed by Adolfo Vidal, presenting a Turn-of-the-Century Vienna evening with special guest baritone vocalist Benjamin Howard.
The program will begin with Til Eulenspiegel, a poem by Richard Strauss. This version has been arranged by Rick Robinson for seven musicians. That will be followed by Mahler's Lieder Eines Fahrenden Gesellen, a song cycle that has been arranged by Arnold Schoenberg for a chamber ensemble, and will end with three Johann Strauss waltzes. Tickets will be $30.
A Viennese Soiree will take place Saturday, May 4, beginning at 7:00 pm at 410 Andalusia Avenue.
Miami Collegium Musicum will present a program titled Serenade to Motherhood - A Choral Celebration. The evening's performance will include works by Johannes Brahms, Neil Ginsberg, Maurice Duruflé, and Elaine Hagenburg, among others. Tickets will be $15.
Serenade to Motherhood will be Saturday, May 11, beginning at 7:30 pm.
Finally, IlluminArts will present Love's Magic at the Sanctuary for the Arts. The program will include selections from Green Sneakers by Ricky Ian Gordon, a song cycle written especially for the evening's guest baritone Jesse Blumberg.
Other music will include the work of Clara Schumann, Fanny Mendelssohn, Florence Price, Astor Piazzolla, and Gabriel Faure.
