Giralda Plaza will feature Sun Stories this summer

Last year, the city of Coral Gables became an Instragram hit when the Giralda Plaza was adorned by over 700 umbrellas hanging over the plaza. This year, the plaza will feature the works of Miami artist Jessy Nite in a display known as ‘Sun Stories’.

Nite will create and install Plexiglas panels above the plaza, which will have colored letters spelling out imaginative and spirited sayings about Coral Gables. With the sun’s daily rotation, the letters will be cast downward onto the sidewalks below and, depending on the time of day, could become stretched and displayed on those walking or sitting under the display.

As the colors and words play across the ground, photographers will be able to capture many of the messages, which will enable them to create novel photographs. Some of these could be used for Promotional Products such, as promotional Pens and Mugs for area businesses and gift shops.

The display will be temporary and is expected to be up in June and remain there into August. While artist renderings have some trying to search for visible words in the display, many will want to wait to see the display in person to capture the messages and sayings depicted.

Nite has had international exposure with sculptures and murals in cities such as London and Bangkok. She will have another Florida display in Homestead next to the ‘Robert is Here’ fruit stand, which is an installation she created for the O, Miami poetry festival.
