Coral Gables locals can explore the waterway with a canoe tour that navigates along the man-made canal system waterfront for approximately 3.5 miles, lasting two-and-one-half hours.
Traversing from Biscayne Bay up to the city of Coral Gables through the residential section of the Biltmore Hotel grand golf course, this recreational adventure is a combination of historic landmarks and unique natural vistas. Moreover, an abundance of wildlife is present in the landscape.
Participants begin their tour at the Coral Gables Museum at 285 Aragon Avenue. Starting with an exhibit titled “Creating the Dream,” the participant views this work exemplifying the vision of George E. Merrick, the original developer of the city. Next, the registrant will board a bus bound for the Waterway, where they jump into a canoe for this self-paddling adventure. Flyer printing can provide information about tours like this and their date.
Advance registration is required. Fees for registering are $40 per person, which may be done by phone (305.603.8067), online, or in person at the museum. Regardless of the weather, the tours are still held unless lightning is sighted locally or extenuating hazardous weather deems it necessary to cancel.
There are two paddlers for every canoe, and the required minimum age is nine years old. The level of difficulty of paddling may vary due to changes in weather, winds, and currents.
The tour takes place on Sunday, October 27, starting at the museum at 9:30 am.
