A staple of the Coral Gables dining scene has been sold, but is expected to reopen soon under new management.
Long-running restaurant Christy’s was purchased by managing partner Chris Klaic and general manager Juliana Parada. This came after founder Charles Hauser sold the building last year for $4m. Hauser is retiring and sold his other restaurant Red Fish Grill last year. Klaic and Parada plan to continue where Hauser left off, drawing on their 30 years of combined experience at Christy’s. The steakhouse has hosted everyone from presidents to sports stars over its 42 years, as well as attracting a base of local loyal customers.
Christy’s combines a classic Midwest-style menu with Cuban and Hispanic-styled artwork and graphic design. The menu includes items like the pistachio crusted rack of lamb, jumbo lump crab cake, and of course steak, from prime tomahawk to filet mignon. Many restaurants are now facing the challenges of reopening and attracting past customers, using tools like flyer printing as well as the attraction of outdoor dining, and Christy’s could soon be among them.
The new ownership of Christy’s will retain the restaurant's menu, style, and location. Morales Francois, who has served as head chef since 1994, will also stay on. No re-opening date has been announced yet, but Klaic and Parada are aiming for mid-August.
