An event in the works for Washington has the whole city buzzing with excitement, and it may help interested future amateur apiarists hit the ground running when they install their own hive.
The Beginner Beekeeping class series will be running for six weeks, and classes are set for once each week. Attendees will walk away with the knowledge they need to find success as an urban beekeeper.
Participants will learn about the history of apiculture, and the life cycle of honeybees will be on the agenda. A review of the clothing and gear that may be helpful to them will take place, and cultural concerns such as pest control and management of bee diseases, and what type food bees look for, will all be discussed. The focus will be on the local area, and both classroom and hands-on activities are on the agenda.
Being part of a class or workshop provides those with an interest in a particular area an opportunity to gather a lot of information in a small amount of time. A brochure printing company will be pleased to prepare learning materials for an event that include full-color photos and other graphics.
This introduction to the art and science of keeping bees in the city is scheduled to start on Saturday, January 24. The venue for the sessions will be 1400 Quincy Street NE, and its web listing provides the most up-to-date details.
