Washington area to introduce new seed library

Even as early as January, savvy gardeners know it is not too soon to start getting ready for the spring planting season, and a Washington area workshop may help them.

George Mason Library recently announced that it will be launching a seed library, and one of its activities will be a free plant swap. It will give local plant fans an economical way to add to their personal collection, and seeds, cuttings, and transplants are all welcome.

During this in-person event, attendees will be able to meet other area garden lovers, and everyone who brings along plants or seeds to share has been asked to ensure they are pest and disease free. They will also be able to learn about the new seed library and how it will be distributing seeds that tend to perform well in the local area. Anyone who would like to contribute their leftover seeds can do so.

Home horticulture is a popular pastime, and many communities host events related to the hobby. A poster printing company will be able to provide materials that help to spread the word about an upcoming class, workshop, or other session to the public.

This plant swap and opportunity to get the inside scoop on the venue’s new seed library is scheduled for Sunday, January 28. It will start at 3:00 pm and last for an hour.
