South Dakota high school to participate in capital city science bowl

Washington, District of Columbia will soon play host to the national science bowl, where students from Stevens High School of Rapid City, South Dakota will be competing against dozens of other teams.

The team, led by captain Morin-Baxter, won first place at the Regional Science Bowl in Huron for the entire state and has been victorious in the past three annual competitions. Gabriel Spahn, a senior on the team, commented that they competed against Rapid City Christian, with Rapid City Central not too far behind.

Morin-Baxter said the team prepared for three months prior to entering the competition and will most likely spend an equivalent amount of time getting ready for the national competition.

Jason Reub, the coach for the science bowl, said that the topics can be challenging, ranging from biology and physics to Advanced Placement calculus. Those selected for the team are individuals who can work together and display a certain chemistry when they are successful. He added that it is a tremendous experience overall as the students also see the museums and get exposed to culture not seen in Rapid City.

The national science bowl will take place at the end of April. A local printing company could help the students to advertise their achievements by means of Posters and Banners.
