Stamford to celebrate its Irish side

Stamford really gets into the Irish state of mind with its annual St. Patrick's Day Parade coming in early March.

The festivities start well before the big day on Thursday, February 26 with the Grand Marshal's Dinner to be held at the Italian Center, 1620 Newfield Avenue at Serafresca. This will be the formal introduction of this year's parade Grand Marshal Dan Brennan. Tickets are $185 each and the dinner will begin at 5:00 pm.

The parade's Irish Step dancers, heritage groups, Irish American organizations, and community groups will step off at 2:00 pm at the intersection of Hoyt and Bedford Streets, continue onto Atlantic, and turn down Main Street. It will end at the intersection of Main Street and Washington Boulevard. Spectators can also look forward to seeing color guards, local dignitaries, antique vehicles, and the Grand Marshal. Sponsorships range from $1,000 to $10,000.

Parade swag like royal blue T-Shirts, sweatshirts, beanies and caps, and green and white striped scarves are available on the event's website. Merchandise sold at parades like this, or on their websites, often features logos or distinctive graphic design elements.

All ages are invited to the Hibernian Hall Parade Party beginning at 10:00 am. The party will feature pipes and drum music, Irish step dancers, drinks and food.

This year's Stamford St. Patrick's Day Parade will take place Saturday, March 7.
