Stamford readies for parade
The holiday season is right around the corner, and for Stamford, for the past 32 years, that means time for The Stamford Downtown Parade Spectacular coming at the end of November.
The parade will start at noon at the intersection of Summer and Hoyt streets and will run to Atlantic and Federal streets. For commuters that will mean just a block from the Stamford Transportation Center. Admission to the parade will be free and people of all ages are encouraged to attend. This year's parade will consist of 15 giant helium balloon characters, including several from years past, such as the popular Peppa Pig, Clifford the Big Red Dog, and Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer. The parade will also feature marching bands such as the Port Chester High School marching band and marchers from establishments such as the Ballet School of Stamford and Ballet Folklórico de las Américas--and also pipe and drum bands. The announcer for the parade will once again be New York Mets announcer Colin Cosell.
Bands that march in parades such as this usually get banner printing done beforehand to introduce themselves to the spectators.
There will also be a pre-parade inflation party the day before the parade at the intersection of Hoyt and Summer streets, running from 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm. Attendees can also get there early to see the balloons inflated while listening to music and enjoying a visit from the man himself: Santa.
This year's parade will take place on Sunday, November 23, from noon to 2:00 pm.
