Stamford offers pair of dance performances

Stamford Center for the Arts will be presenting two dance productions over the next couple of months.

Firstly, Shen Yun, a celebration and revival of China’s cultural heritage, will be a performance of around 20 quickly moving dance pieces depicting legends, regions, and dynasties. Themes range from heroic battlefields to elegant Tang court ladies.

Shen Yun Performing Arts will have five performances from April 27 to April 30. Tickets are available from $124 to $599.

Shortly after, Connecticut Ballet will be bringing its last production of the season to Stamford with Brett Raphael’s 2010 revival of Coppélia. The production will have all-new costumes and sets.

This ballet is a comedic and colorful full-length story ballet that follows Swanhilda, a young girl, inside the mysterious Dr. Coppelius’s toy workshop. This family-friendly ballet features national dances from Hungary and Poland, and ends with the wedding of Swanhilda and her love Franz. It is famous for its ‘Waltz of the Hours.’

Principal dancers will be in the lobby with a meet-and-greet after the performances. Tickets for each performance will range from $50 to $75.

Connecticut Ballet’s Coppelia 2023 will be at the Palace Theatre’s Main Stage, 61 Atlantic Street, on Saturday, May 6 beginning at 7:30 pm, and Sunday, May 7 beginning at 2:00 pm.
