Stamford children to dance in traditional Christmas ballet

Over 100 children from Stamford and surrounding area dance schools will soon join the New York City Ballet and American Ballet Theatre principal dancers in presenting four performances of Tchaikovsky’s “The Nutcracker” ballet.

For this Saturday’s performances, The Sugar Plum Fairy will be portrayed by Unity Phelan and her cavalier will be danced by Jovani Furlan – both are principals from the American Ballet Theater. On Sunday, the two roles will be played by Gillian Murphy as the Fairy and Blaine Hoven as the cavalier, both from the New York City Ballet.

Guests may wish to arrive a little before the performance to purchase holiday items such as children’s books, nutcrackers, and ornaments at the Nutcracker Boutique located in the theater lobby.

Attends may also want to remain after the performance to meet the guest artists and have pictures taken with them. Tickets for each performance will be $50, $60 or $75 depending on seating.

Proud parents of children participating in ballet performances like these often take pictures or their budding dancers and take the photos to local print shops to be made into duplicate copies for family and friends.

The Nutcracker will take place this Saturday, December 18 at 2:00 pm and 6:00 pm, and Sunday, December 18 at 1:00 pm and 5:00 pm at the Palace Theatre, 61 Atlantic Street.
