Orchestra has concert series in store

The Stamford Symphony will present four concerts over the next couple of months.

A Stamford Symphony Chamber Concert will open the symphony’s 2022 season at the Carriage Barn Arts Center on January 23, starting at 3:00 pm. The free performance will include “Amazing Grace for String Quartet” by Jennifer Higdon, W.A. Mozart’s “Spring” String Quartet No. 14 in G Major, William Grant Still’s “Danzas de Panama,” Puccini’s “Crisantemi,” and three pieces of traditional folk music.

Fish Church, 1101 Bedford Street, will host a free afternoon of music featuring trumpets and an organist. The performance will take place on Sunday, February 13 beginning at 3:00 pm.

The Roaring Twenties will be revisited when the Stamford Symphony presents “Rhapsody in Blue.”
The 75-minute performance will feature Vince Giordano & the Nighthawks orchestra, with Barbara Rosene as the vocalist.

The program will include pianist Mackenzie Melemed playing Gershwin’s "Rhapsody in Blue," along with some members of the Stamford Symphony and conductor Michael Stern.

"Rhapsody in Blue" will be presented at the Palace Theatre, 61 Atlantic Street on Saturday, February 26 beginning at 7:30 pm.

On February 27, the symphony will present a String Quartet at the First Presbyterian Church of New Canaan. The program will include a piece by Beethoven and works of Florence Price, who was the first nationally acclaimed African American female composer.
