Mural competition comes to Stamford

RiseUP for Arts will be hosting the Stamford Off-Main Experience: Mural Competition toward the end of October.

Nine artists will use 8-foot-by-8- foot canvases to create works of art. The theme for this year will be Transformation to reflect the renovations going on in the Middle Corridor at Mill River Park.

The community will then vote for their favorite piece, and the canvases will be auctioned off after the competition. Half of the proceeds from the auction will go to RiseUP for Arts’ future mural events.

Along with the live mural painting competition, food, music, and activities, the event will introduce The Seed, which is a new Mill River Park permanent art installation. An acclaimed local artist, JPO, will be painting a mural on the installation.

Entertainment and live music will be emceed by Stamford's DJ Dinero, and food trucks will be vending beverages and snacks throughout the event. Family-oriented arts and crafts activities will be set up around the venue.

Local governments that take part in events like these often commission photos of newly installed artwork, and these pictures can go to local Print shops to be added to the town's visitor guide.

The Stamford Off-Main Experience: Mural Competition will take place Saturday, October 26, from 12:00 pm to 5:00 pm, at the intersection of Greenwich Avenue and Tresser Boulevard on Mill River Park's Middle Corridor.
