Runners tone up for annual MuckFest

Energetic Newtown athletes who like the idea of running five kilometers while getting filthy for a good cause will relish the Annual MuckFest MS Philadelphia 5K Mud and Fun Run coming up at the end of the month.

In the past few years this event has attracted more than 7,000 runners, all eager to participate in this unusual race. Time is running out for anyone wishing to participate, however, as the first day is already sold out.

The event is a messy 5K race that requires the participants to run, walk, climb, slosh, and swing through a course of craters, muddy pits, trenches, and other obstacles. It requires endurance, tenacity, and at least a small portion of bravado.

All participants receive a race bib, a Muckfest MS T-shirt, and a free beverage—they will also gain admission to MuckFestival and Lil’ Muckers, free parking, and free event photos. Photos taken at the festival should provide not only good memories but a special opportunity for postcard printing aimed at relatives not able to attend.

All proceeds from the MuckFestival will go to the National Multiple Sclerosis Association.

The festival will be held Saturday, May 31 and Sunday, June 1 and start at 9:00 am, at Newtown Square. Saturday’s roster is full but there are still openings for the Sunday race.
