Newtown to put on running shoes

All Newtown runners will want to get into shape for the upcoming Bookin’ for Lookin’ Charity Race. This is the third year for the fundraiser that benefits the Foundation Fighting Blindness and the Bucks County Association for the Blind and Visually Impaired.

Runners can enter either the five-kilometer or the eight-mile run. The longer route takes the participants through scenic Tyler Park. Younger children can enter a one-mile fun run, while children five years of age up to 14 years old can be a part of the Kids’ Marathon Challenge. The challenge is to run a total of 25.2 miles in the days before the event, and finish the last mile on the event course.

Families and friends will want to get banner printing done soon in order to have a way to support their favorite runners at the finish line. Last year’s event had 240 participants, and organizers are hoping for at least 300 entries this year.

Adult runners who have preregistered will get a fresh cannoli and a long-sleeved shirt when they sign in. Those who sign up on the day of the event will get the shirt only, and kids who have preregistered for the challenge will receive short-sleeved T-Shirts. Awards will be presented to winners.

The Charity Race is scheduled for April 19, at North Council Rock North High School. The start time will be 8:30 am.
