Newtown to celebrate Memorial Day with parade

Morell Smith Post 440 is organizing the Newtown Memorial Day Parade.

The marshal this year will be Stan Mathews. Kyle Davis, Newtown Township’s Supervisor, will be the guest speaker.

The parade will step off on Newtown-Yardley Road at the Commons West Building. Then it will go south and turn left into Newtown Cemetery, where there will be a memorial service at the grave of Morell Smith.

After the service, the parade will continue by turning right onto Elm Avenue, then left Washington Avenue. It will continue left onto Lincoln then turn right onto Centre Street. At the library, there will be a memorial service at the World War I Monument.

Next, the parade will go on down Congress Street and onto State Street. When the procession reaches Borough Hall, it will pause for a memorial service and speeches. Afterwards, the parade will resume its march down Center Street and go onto Richboro Road. It will then turn right onto Linden Avenue and end at the Legion Home. There, the veterans will conduct a memorial service.

Units may want to get some Banners made between now and the parade to introduce themselves to spectators.

The parade will be on Monday, May 30, starting at 9:00 am. Participants will want to arrive at the start of the parade by 8:30 am. The West Common Building is located at 660 Newtown Yardley-Road, Newtown.
