Newtown is ready to do Halloween in style with its traditional store window painting contest and Halloween parade.
State Street is getting into the Halloween spirit by participating in Newtown’s Halloween Window Painting. Local families, children, organizations, and businesses will be decorating windows for the season. Acrylic paint will be passed out to the artists the first hour of the event at the parking lot outside the Newtown Bicycle Shop, and artists will be bringing their own brushes, tarps, paper towels, and water for cleanup.
Windows will be assigned – one per each group or artist. There will be prizes awarded in 10 categories including Best Group Window, Best Use of Pumpkins, Funniest Window, Most Colorful, Most Original, Spookiest, and the Grand Prize Winner. Winners will be taking pictures of their creations for later poster printing.
The Newtown Halloween Parade will be stepping off in the parking lot at the Stocking Works at the end of the month. It will go down State Street and finish in front of the Newtown Theatre. Prizes will be given for Halloween Horror, Humor, Pampered Pets, Sports, Movies and TV, Youngest Dressed, Mayor’s Trophy, Group Theme, and Storybook and Fantasy.
Newtown’s Halloween Window Painting will take place October 21 from 9:00 am until 12:30 pm on State Street. The parade will be October 28 starting at 10:00 am at the Stocking Works at 410 South State Street, Newtown.
