Newtown association to hold community market

The Newtown Historic Association will be hosting a market in October to showcase local crafters and celebrate the city.

Market Day is a yearly tradition created by the Newtown Historic Association to pay homage to how the community’s original farmers and crafters would sell their products in the town. More than 100 vendors are featured in the celebration. The event has evolved to include activities such as historical re-enactments, corn shucking contests, and scarecrow stuffing. The local festival will kick off with a special cocktail party at the Newtown Theater on Friday, September 30.

Members of the community can assist during Market Day by becoming a volunteer for the event. High school students and scouts may earn volunteer hours during the fest by assisting with taking photographs of the event, selling beverages to benefit the Newtown Historic Association, and distributing Posters to local businesses. People can also help out the event organizers by managing traffic and setting up the festival.

The marketplace fest will be held on Saturday, October 1 from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm. The event will be set up on Centre Street, Court Street, and Mercer Street. People can browse the stalls on Market Day for free. Vendors who take part in community traditions such as this may use banner printing to create easily spottable Signs for their booths during the events.
