Fonthill Castle celebrates Old Fashioned Fourth of July

To celebrate an Old Fashioned Fourth of July this year, the Fonthill Castle’s annual Old Fashioned Fourth of July Celebration will be a day for the whole family to

enjoy games, food, and live patriotic music.

Held in Doylestown, some activities will be a tug-o-war, bucket brigade relays, sack races and watermelon eating contests. A 19th century game (town ball) something like baseball will be played.Grown-ups can win cakes by participating in the ever-popular Cakewalk.

Children are invited to enter the Children’s Decorated Bike Parade which will get the event rolling. Prizes will be awarded for most original, patriotic and most dynamic. Judging will be done for three age groups – the 2 to 4 year-olds, the 5 to 8 year-olds and the 9 to 12 year-olds. Mr. Mercer, the owner of the castle will award the prizes himself. The event is expected to attract visitors from all over, including Newtown residents.

Although there will be plenty of venders selling traditional summer treats and snacks, everyone can bring a picnic lunch. Add a blanket and families can enjoy picnics on the castle grounds. The view will make an interesting picture for the castle’s future Brochures.

The event will be, of course, on July 4th from 12:00 pm until 4:00 pm. The location will be at Fonthill Castle, 525 E. Court Street, Doylestown.
