For the 52nd consecutive year, the Newtown Historic Association will be conducting its Annual Holiday Open House Tour in early December.
Six private local homes and six public historic buildings decorated with Christmas themes will be opened for visitors on a walking tour. Some public buildings on the tour will include the Newtown Library, Fire Station 45, and the adjoining museum, Newtown Theatre (the oldest live venue and movie theatre in the U.S.). Newtown’s United Methodist Church and Newtown Borough Hall will also be involved.
The tour organizers ask that participants do not wear high heels or boots, or take photos in the private homes. The Half Moon Inn (a.k.a. Court Inn) will demonstrate open-hearth cooking, provide musical entertainment from old times, and offer refreshments of cheese and mulled cider.
Proceeds will go to Newtown Historic Association and the local programs that preserve Newtown’s heritage. The association may want to have pictures taken of the town’s festive exteriors for postcard printing or Stationery printing.
Advanced tickets can be purchased either online at the Newtown Historic Association’s website, or at Newtown Book & Record on State Street. Tickets may be purchased the day of the event at the Stocking Works, 301 South Street or Newtown Historic Association, Centre Avenue, and Court Street.
The event will be Saturday, December 6, from 10:00am to 4:00pm. A snow date, if necessary, has been set for December 7.
