October is here, and that means Halloween is just around the corner. Newtown locals will soon be kicking off the holiday with the annual Newtown Halloween Art Scene, a fall invitational craft show. This year, the event will include a pet parade.
As usual, there will be plenty of hands-on art activities up and down the streets, and amusements for Newtowns little ghosts and goblins. Distinguished jurors will be judging arts and crafts such as photography, leatherwork, and glass and jewelry projects.
Artists will be giving demonstrations of their talents. Of course, there will also be the traditional Halloween Window Painting Contest, which started the event back in the 1960s. All Newtown creative fashion designers can make scarecrows and enter them into a contest.
For those who cannot bake, paint, or make scarecrows, the event will also include the Frankenweenie Pet Parade. Pets dressed in Halloween costumes and their owners will queue up at Georges Floorcovering, walking up one side and down State Street. Cupcake Wars will be a contest open to young bakers and decorators aged 6 to 10 and 11 to 16. Halloween banner printing and flyer printing are already in full swing.
The Halloween event will be held Saturday and Sunday from October 18 to 19, from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm at the Tyler Park Center for the Arts, Richboro, Pennsylvania (4.6 miles from Newtown).
