Middletown to take pride in pets

Locals who wish to get their pet micro-chipped or inoculated against rabies will have the opportunity to do so next weekend.

Middletown Animal Control is about to host a Rabies & Microchipping Clinic, in conjunction with a Pet Adoption Day. The event will be held rain or shine at the Vocational Agricultural Center on Middletown High School's LaRosa Lane Campus.

In addition to the services being offered to pets, those without a furry companion may be able to find their next best friend at the event. Dogs and cats from local shelters will be on hand and available for adoption.

Questions about the upcoming event can be directed to the Animal Control Office, (860) 638- 4030. Costs are $25 for micro-chipping and $20 for rabies vaccinations, and each service is on a cash only basis. All donations will be used to benefit the animals at our local shelters.

Veterinarians and other pet-centric businesses and civil authorities all urge pet owners to microchip their animals. While not a replacement for the old standby of engaging a flyer or poster printing service to find a lost furry friend, an implanted microchip does increase the likelihood of a beloved pet returning home.

The date for pet owners to mark in their diaries is May 10, with the event taking place from 9:00 am to 11:00 am.
