Middletown residents will have an opportunity to explore the traditions of Jewish folk music during A Klezmer Journey featuring the Nu Haven Kapelye.
The event is an educational performance that will introduce audiences to the history, cultural significance, and musical traditions of klezmer. It will involve live entertainment, storytelling, demonstrations, and audience participation.
Recognized as Connecticut's largest klezmer ensemble, the Nu Haven Kapelye performs music rooted in Eastern European Jewish heritage while incorporating contemporary interpretations and original arrangements. During the presentation, musicians will explain the development of the genre, highlighting its role in community celebrations and its continued influence within modern musical traditions. Guests will also learn about the rhythms, instruments, and improvisational techniques associated with klezmer music.
Interactive segments will encourage audience participation while offering insight into how the genre reflects Jewish history, cultural identity, and artistic expression.
Admission to the program is free, although registration is required because seating is limited. Registration will remain open until 2:30 PM on August 15, and each reservation may include up to six seats.
