Fairfield residents hand in piles of PJs

The ReThreads shop in Fairfield received a great gift on January 30, as the staff of the Fairfield City School District donated about 3,000 pajamas to the clothing pantry, which will make them available to area families who are in need.

School district spokeswoman Gina Gentry-Fletcher said that she had volunteered at ReThreads, and noticed that very few pajamas were received. At this point, the school decided to help the shop.

They decided on the drive, which they called ‘Jammies in January’, and used employees of the district, supporters of the pantry, students, and others in the community to generate excitement. Students at a home basketball game dressed in PJs, and ReThreads board members were presented with a ‘token box’ containing a few of the donated pajamas.

ReThreads went into business approximately five years ago, when the school district, several churches, and other community organizations realized Fairfield had no clothing pantry, and thus nowhere for people in need to go to find free clothing. One of the city's churches donated space, and people began to talk to various organizations throughout the city about the need for donations. Once word spread, donations poured in.

ReThreads could consider working with brochure printers to create a booklet to put in racks in the local area, detailing the mission and asking for donations.
