Town to get Scrooged

For one weekend this month, Danbury Christmas revelers and humbuggers alike will have an opportunity to enjoy an evening of musical magic, as the Musicals at Richter and the Palace Danbury present ‘Scrooge the Musical’.

The show is based on the traditional holiday classic of Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol—a musical that was first presented as a movie back in a 1970s production that starred Albert Finney. Guests can listen again to songs such as ‘December the 25th’, ‘I Like Life’, and ‘Thank You Very Much’.

The plot revolves around cranky old London skinflint Ebenezer Scrooge (and of course Bob Cratchit, Tiny Tim, et al). His one-night renascence and conversion over Christmas Eve, with the help of ghosts representing Christmas past, present, and future, transforms him from a miserly, lonely old curmudgeon to a loveable philanthropist. Printing companies have been turning out Books, programs, Posters, and other memorabilia for this tale since 1843.

More than 25 local performers will be bringing this classic to life on stage. The production has been staged and will be directed by Donald E. Birely, with musical direction by Dan Koch. Scrooge will be played by George Alberts.

The performances will be held at The Palace Danbury at 165 Main St from December 19 to 21. Evening performances will be at 8:00 pm, while matinees will be at 3:00 pm on Saturday and Sunday.
