Town to attend live hip-hop performance

Danbury locals looking for a way to warm the winter chill may want to attend an upcoming performance by Northampton hip-hop and rap artist Andrew ‘Fig’ Figueroa.

He will be offering a show he calls ‘Mixed-Race Mixtape’; a family friendly fusion of instrumental hip-hop and dance movements, theatrical performances, and rap songs.

Figueroa’s show is based on a work he created as a student at Hampshire College; it was part of his senior thesis and is based on his own experiences as a mixed-race Latino artist looking to find his niche in the music and entertainment business.

He describes his show as a live performance of a concept album performed in a traditionally theatrical way, though it also has multiple instances of interaction with those in the audience. It is designed to be not just entertaining, but fun because it allows other people to become part of the show. His show also includes messages of tolerance and elements of self-actualization, and pride in identity.

Those who plan to attend may wish to have flyer printing done for distribution and promotion, encouraging a good turnout.

The show will be performed tomorrow, February 23, at 6:00 pm in Ives Concert Hall at Western Connecticut State University, 181 White St, Danbury. Attendance will be free. Parking will be available at the Old Main Lot.
